Raw Juice Link Up presents » Plot Twist
Mix and Q&A Session:

Tell us about yourself; who are you, where are you from, what do you do?
I’m Plot Twist, I live in minneapolis MN. I make music, do graphic design, and fix things.
How long have you been producing & DJing?
Producing 15 years. Djing 3.
What is your favorite piece of studio equipment?
Every track I make has battery 3 in it. I play around with a lot of different softsynths, but the Korg Legacy bundle is the shit!
What are your musical influences and where do you get your inspiration from?
My dad brought home “Newcleus - Space is the Place” on tape when I was 6. My mom had a record of Balinese Germinal music - basically a gong orchestra - that I discovered a little later. We’d listen to an afropop weekly radio show on NPR. There was Herbie Hancock’s head hunters, early 90s hip hop/r&b radio, lots and lots of drum & bass records, tribe called quest tapes, IDM, and all that. So kinda everything built for me to this current climate of global anything goes rhythm driven, sonically inventive music.
Do you have any forthcoming projects / releases ?
I just released my first EP on Kingthing’s new Silhouettes. It’s called Ny Qwil. I threw an EP of rap bootlegs up on http://plottwist.bandcamp.com in the last month too. Up next, a bunch of bootlegs of my favorite drum & bass (you can hear a few on the mix), a colab with Mohegan Son, and an EP for Fortified Audio.
What other producers do you feel at the moment?
Pretty proud of some of the dudes I know from MPLS of course - Enron Hubbard, Connie Hawkins, Tennis Rodman, Neuport, 666 sound club, Westin. I’m a huge fan of Resketch, Hybu (both did remixes for my EP), Distal, Kingthing, Machinedrum, the whole B. Yrslf camp, Lunice, Hud Mo. And I always come back to Gosub.
What’s your five top tunes at the moment?
MITE + EWALK - Body Tap (B.Yrslf) medla - anything Helix - Drum Track (Night Slugs) Star Slinger - Bad Bitches (Feat. Stunnaman & LIL B) Kingthing - Waking Up (Infrasonics)
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Gettin paid to create. Running a label, puting out good music, doing innovative design work for major clients, raising a family!
Do you have any guilty pleasures?
I have some dorky pleasures (video games, sci fi, internet) but the only one I ever actually feel guilty for is all this damn junk food I eat lol. Gotta do something about that…

Raw Juice Link Up presents » Lōtic
Mix and Q&A Session:

Tell us about yourself; who are you, where are you from, what do you do?
J’Kerian. Born in rural northeast Texas and raised in Houston. Living in Berlin after living in Austin for 4 years. Currently a freelance graphic designer.
How long have you been producing & DJing?
As Lōtic for about a year, but I’ve been a musician in one way or another since I was, like, 12. Was an alto saxophonist then a composer then a singing noise musician; now I’m learning to balance all that.
What is your favorite piece of studio equipment?
APC 40. I’ve downloaded all kinds of re-mappings for it that basically lemme use it however I need to. I use it with Ableton and with Traktor as well.
What are your musical influences and where do you get your inspiration from?
Like most people, I’m influenced by quite a bit. I could list names, but really I’d have to start from the first thing anyone ever played me, right? I can say that I’m pretty largely influenced by electro-acoustic music since I studied and made it in college, but it’s hard to be too specific beyond that. I’m constantly taking mental notes about what I’m hearing, from the latest vapid/exploitative/over-hyped track to the sound of a creaking door or CRT being powered on. I think I’m more of a sound designer than anything.

Do you have any forthcoming projects / releases ?
I’m working on a few collaborations that should be out somewhat soonish possibly, and another personal, long-term project that’s more acousmatically inclined and is largely vocal-based. Also have a few remixes coming out soon. Working on new material for an EP as well, of course. Is that vague enough?
What other producers do you feel at the moment?
Tyme. produced Tujiko Noriko’s newest album, and it’s driving me insane. Rabit always sends me the craziest shit, Massacooramaan I have no words for. LE1F and Rizzla always slay. Arms&Suites, Lucid, Norrit.
What’s your five top tunes at the moment?
This question is hard.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Hopefully performing a lot more and in different/unusual spaces. Clubs are great, but I see DJing as a performance art, so that could open up a whole nother world of possibilities. As far as producing, it’s hard to say: 5 years can be a very long time for music, but I guess more than anything I hope to still be interesting to people and to have grown to a point that I can’t imagine currently.
Do you have any guilty pleasures?
I don’t think I care enough about what people think to feel guilty for liking anything I like.
