These cats are on some serious bizness, coming together from Philly to Seattle to brew up their special blend of bass n’ riddims. Fresh to ya ears and unforgiving to ya ass, these boys take charge of the sound and deliver it live n’ direct. After teaming up for a couple collab remixes (SDUK’s “Clunge” out now on Slit Jockey Records and DmnDays ft. Whiskey Pete & Julz “Coming Through Smashing” out soon on Sub Philo Music), Dev79 and Thrills seemed to be on a roll and have a collab EP of all original tracks underway as well as more remixes bubblin’. To further cement the fact that this duo ain’t pulling punches, they are ready to jump off a West Coast tour together – which is sure to set clubs on fire and raise the sales of the morning after pill.

This FACT mix, released a couple of days ago, comes from the man behind Hyperdub, and one of modern dance music’s most celebrated producers and DJs, Kode9.
“Debuting on Tempa in 2002 with ‘Fat Larry’s Skank’, Kode9 has spent the last decade exploring an aesthetic that’s taken him from suffocating dread-filled dubstep to toxic house music. Along the way, he’s released a superb album (Memories of the Future, with frequent collaborator Spaceape) and become just as famous for his record label as his own productions: since Hyperdub’s inception in 2004, it’s released albums by Burial, Ikonika and King Midas Sound, and singles by Zomby, Terror Danjah, Cooly G, Mala and more.
This month, 9 will release the latest in K7’s DJ-Kicks series of mix CDs, a journey from elasticated house and dancehall, through soul, funk and hip-hop, to overbearing dubstep and grime. Kode is one of the world’s best DJs – his extended sets at Plastic People last year are spoken of with pure reverence, and this year he’s let out specialist mixes in 2step and “sino-grime”. Today the debut release from Kavsrave was released on Numbers. To celebrate the release of Quotes, Kavsrave has done the latest Numbers Podcast, mixing up Ginuwine, Lil Wayne and Hud Mo as well as an upfront Numbers exclusive from Kavs himself.

Next-level dubstep heat from the newest Numbers recruit, Kavsrave. Hailing from Croydon, aka the spiritual home of the ‘step, Kavsrave grew up making tunes and partying alongside close mates Joy Orbison and A1 Bassline. His music hits the very same receptors as Joker’s purple wow beats, a mix of super-tight future funk synths and roaring basslines that Jackmaster has been caning in his sets of the last 12 months. ‘P-Clart’ starts the session with a flush of floating R’n'B vocals coating a pirahna-toothed bass synth and expertly organised half-step funk. ‘Tightly Closed’ reworks this formula with hyperventilating vocal snippets applied to masses of crushing neon synth pressure and the instantly recognisable refrain of ‘Baggage Handler’ leads us into one of the years undoubted heavyweight anthems.
